Poke Salat Days set for June 3-5
The Ava Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Poke Salat Days 9 a.m.-l1 p.m. June 3-5.
The chamber's annual fund-raiser will feature arts and crafts booths, melodrama, a karaoke contest, a talent show, and kids' games and entertainment. Authentic poke salat (wild greens that are boiled and seasoned into a salad) will be served.
Southern gospel group The New Horizons will perform 7-9 p.m. June 3 in the town square gazebo at the intersection of highways 5 and 14.
Musician Clayton Scott will play June 3-4, and the KTTS Road Show will be 4-8 p.m. June 4.
Sister, a contemporary Christian duo, will perform 7-8:30 p.m. June 5, followed by fiddler Bob Holt at 8:30 p.m.
"We expect a nice size crowd of about 5,000 people. We are inviting more artisans and crafters than retailers in the hopes of making Poke Salat Days more of a place for showcasing arts and crafts than for selling retail merchandise," said Jennifer Lamb, the new executive director of the Ava chamber.
