Largest Nixpo yet set for April 8
The Nixa Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Nixa Business Showcase Nixpo 9 a.m.-3 p.m. April 8 at Nixa High School, 205 North Street. The event will have 81 booths available this year compared to 63 last year.
There is no admission charge and each company will give away a door prize. A grand prize gift basket stuffed with prizes from participating companies will be given away at the end of the day. Clowns and face painting will entertain the children who attend Nixpo.
"This year's Nixpo is shaping up to be the best ever," said Ron Shawgo, of Ozark Mountain Stained Glass, the Nixpo committee chairman. "We feel we are providing a service, not only to the businesses we serve through the chamber, but also to the residents of Nixa. When you buy locally, you not only save time and money, but you also help support those businesses established in the community," he said.
Twenty area businesses have signed on as sponsors of Nixpo. They are: Quizno's Subs, Budget Framer, Kwik Dry Carpet Cleaning, Le Cour Caf, Wood & Huston Bank, Fire It Up!, Haymes Insurance Agency, Sharp Signs, Paragon Investigations, Empire Bank, Quick Loans, CB Laser, Nixa News-Enterprise, Murney Associates, The Money Tree, SDA Architects, Town & Country Flower Shop and Gifts, Inc., The Wild Fork, Ozark Bank, and Peoples Bank.
Ozark
Ozark Cruisin' USA open on Highway J
Old-fashioned custard desserts served in a 1950s atmosphere are featured at the new Cruisin' USA Frozen Custard, 1530 W. Hwy. J, just east of Highway 65 in Ozark. The 2,700-square-foot drive-up eatery is owned by Ozark Gateway Properties LLC, with managing partners Carl Miller, Colin Clyne and Lynn Morris.
The custard shop, which opened Feb. 14, employs 18 people and during spring/summer hours it will be open 11 a.m.-11 p.m. daily. Menu items include custard specialties such as the Tootie Fruitie, Big Daddy Mountain Duck, Monster Mash and Hot Rod Hot Fudge Sundae.
Miller said that classic car cruise-ins will be featured at a grand opening event and several times in the summer. The drive-in's location at the Highway 65/CC & J intersection has already proven to be a good one.
"We are attracting people from Nixa, Ozark and Springfield. After the first church meeting at James River Assembly, it was fantastic. And when school gets out at 3:15, it's real busy," Miller said.
