Springfield Marine ready to rebuild |ret||ret||tab|
After a devastating fire Nov. 24, Springfield Marine, a division of Springfield Aluminum Company Inc., is preparing to build two buildings at 1093 Cynthia St. in Nixa. President Ron Mawhiney said the new manufacturing building will encompass about 99,000 square feet. A building for general offices, research and development and engineering will be 18,000 square feet in size. |ret||ret||tab|
The general contractor for the project is Construction Processing Company, which plans to finish the building in October, according to Mawhiney. Springfield Marine is working in a 10,000-square-foot warehouse that survived the fire, plus 61,000 square feet in four leased buildings scattered around three of Nixa's industrial areas. |ret||ret||tab|
The November fire destroyed an 86,000-square-foot manufacturing facility built in 1972. Mawhiney said the company now employs 70 people and plans to expand its marine product division, which manufactures seating and hardware for the boating industry. |ret||ret||tab|
"In time we may need more people," he said. The foundry division, which did aluminum castings, will not be replaced. According to Mawhiney, that work will be farmed out to other companies. |ret||ret||tab|
"It's amazing what we have done. The fire was very devastating and we had to work hard to keep our customer base," Mawhiney said. "We've received lot of compliments from the industry on the great job we've done to meet our customers' needs. We've been in business for many years, and we are No. 1 in the seating industry. Our reputation has meant so much. Our customers were willing to be patient with us, which was a big blessing." |ret||ret||tab|
