On Leggett & Platt tour, Nixon touts auto manufacturing

Posted online
In conjunction with the fourth anniversary of the Missouri Manufacturing Jobs Act, Gov. Jay Nixon on Wednesday toured Leggett & Platt’s automotive component plant in Carthage.

According to the Joplin Globe, Nixon said the state has made strides in auto manufacturing the past four years, when employment had dropped below 5,000 workers. Citing data released this week by the Missouri Economic Research and Information Council, the governor said employment at Missouri auto plants and suppliers is projected to increase to nearly 14,000 by 2015, the Globe reported.

At Leggett & Platt, President Karl Glassman said the company has added 30 jobs at its Flex-O-Lator plant, and it’s building a new operation in the Kansas City area.
