Olive Garden's redesign bids farewell to fake Old World charm

The grapes-on-stucco logo has been replaced with one featuring bright green olive branches against a dark gray background, and Olive Garden is now billing itself as an Italian "kitchen," not a "restaurant."
 
Restaurant interiors are also being redesigned. Walls are being knocked out and the faux Old World decor is being jettisoned in favor of brighter colors and open-concept floor plans.
 
Faster service, online ordering and smaller lunch portions are also part of parent company Darden Restaurants' attempts to revitalize the slumping chain to stay competitive with fast-casual chains such as Panera Bread and Chipotle.
