Olive Garden is red hot again

Can there be such a thing as too many breadsticks? Apparently yes.
 
Earlier this year, activist hedge fund Starboard Value took control of Darden Restaurant's board of directors. Darden owns Olive Garden, among other restaurant chains, but it was Olive Garden that Starboard singled out for what it considered lousy food and lackluster customer service. Among the culinary missteps Starboard outlined in a 294-slide presentation were too much sauce ladled over tasteless pastas and serving too many breadsticks.
 
When Darden reports its latest quarterly results this week, analysts are expecting earnings of 27 cents per share, according to CNNMoney, a nice increase over the same period last year and the first quarterly report since Starboard took over. Earnings have consistently beaten the market since the takeover, as well, the report states.
