OKC oil company files for bankruptcy

Oklahoma City-based SandRidge Energy Inc. yesterday became the latest oil and gas company to file for bankruptcy.

The company, which was an early riser in the American shale boom, is the fifth energy firm to file for bankruptcy in five days.

Since the start of 2015, roughly 77 North American energy companies have declared bankruptcy.

The Wall Street Journal cited declining oil prices weighing on company balance sheets.
