Oil refinery workers join growing strike

More than 6,500 workers at 15 oil refineries and other facilities have walked off the job in the largest strike in 35 years, CNNMoney reports.
 
Negotiations between United Steelworkers and the oil industry, represented by Shell, center on worker safety and the use of non-union contractors. The talks broke down on Friday and there are no new talks scheduled, the report states.
 
The oil industry maintains it is committed to resolving the disputes but the USW claims concessions don't fully address workers' concerns and is encouraging all of its members to join the strike.
