A Dayton, Ohio-based less-than-truckload freight carrier relocated its local service center to a new $5 million facility in Strafford along Interstate 44.
Dayton Freight Lines Inc. opened the center May 23 at 524 S. Highway 125 in Strafford, according to the Springfield Business Development Corp.’s June 3 investor brief newsletter. The company previously operated at 2301 N. Belcrest Ave. in Springfield.
Located on 27 acres, the new center encompasses nearly 27,000 square feet with 52 docks, up from 15 at its former facility.
“With added capacity, we will be able to take on much more business and create more job opportunities in the local community,” said Mike Jones, Dayton Freight’s local service center manager, in a news release.
Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce officials helped the company secure incentives through the city of Strafford’s Enhanced Enterprise Zone, which provides tax credits and tax abatements to companies that create jobs and invest money into the area.
Founded in 1981, Dayton Freight employs more than 3,900 and operates nearly 50 service centers in 13 states, according to its
website.
