Company spokesperson Nicole Miller could not say how many are employed with the local store, 3500 S. Glenstone, but she said an average OfficeMax retail store has 10 full-time associates and 10 part-time associates.
According to Springfield Business Journal's 2005 Book of Lists, in 2004 Office Max had 15 full-time employees, making it No. 5 on the list. When the list was re-researched in September 2005, OfficeMax declined to participate.
A representative from the Springfield store could not comment.
Other Missouri locations set to close are in Independence and Sikeston. OfficeMax has 23 other stores across the state that will remain open.
“While it is always difficult to make these kinds of decisions, it is occasionally necessary to close stores based on performance and growth potential,” said Gil Mohesky, territory senior vice president, in a news release. “We look forward to continuing to serve these communities through our other stores or at officemax.com.”
The nearest OfficeMax location for Springfield shoppers will be in Branson, at 2020 W. State Highway 76.
