“Having everybody under one roof is the biggest thing,” says co-owner Jeff Russell, sitting in his new office, one of six in the executive suite wing. “We had departments that hadn’t seen each other in a year or two.”

The Marketplace

Snacks are stocked in the Marketplace. “We wanted to make sure people had access to fresh foods without having to leave the property,” Director of Executive Support Layton Alsup says of the help-yourself concessions. Staff members pay with their phone or thumbprint.

Russell Cellular Inc.’s $6 million national home office is so new the paint’s still drying. Not really, but there are a few finishing touches left on the 40,000-square-foot building at the corner of West Bypass and Republic Road.

The December move represents the first time in over three years all corporate staff, now up to 130, is in the same building. It’s just in time to build upon new sales records for the Verizon Wireless authorized retailer. The company set two monthly sales transaction highs this year on its way to $650 million in annual revenue. Not bad for starting out slinging cell phones from Jeff Russell’s trunk in the early 1990s.
