Austin O’Reilly, who leases space in Farmers Park from his brother, Matt, wanted a spot facing outdoors in the south-side development. From the “think tank” meeting space, employees have a view of foliage and an art piece dubbed Cloud House. Customized vintage microscopes also adorn the space.

Labor of Love

Scientists Rhy Norton, right, and Jen Denson work in the lab, which makes up half of the office. Norton refers to the company’s work as the “Wild West of DNA testing,” as it’s still young and much has yet to be explored.

DNA Art

A portion of company sales is in creating artwork based on customers’ DNA samples. Springfield-based Black River Imaging does the prints. “Each of the bands in the DNA art represents a trait. This is my profile,” O’Reilly says of a black and white piece on the wall facing employee workspaces. Also, the carpet patterns represent chemical structures.

Dynamic DNA visitors are immediately greeted by microscopic images of insects and office chair fibers. Its logo includes four colors that represent the four nucleotides of DNA, while also resembling a helix structure.

Genetic materials drive business at Dynamic DNA Laboratories LLC, so naturally, the company’s office aesthetic follows that thread. The 2,000-square-foot space in Farmers Park is carefully designed with the company’s mission in mind. Austin O’Reilly, founder of the biomedical and genetic testing firm, says the scientific and philosophical concepts behind DNA fit into everything from the company’s logo and artwork to its lighting, carpeting and laboratory.
