O'Fallon robbers target Pokemon Go players

Posted online
Robbers in O'Fallon took advantage of the vast popularity of new smartphone game Pokemon Go.

On Sunday, four suspects were arrested after staking out specific spots that drew players.

Pokemon Go is an augmented reality smartphone geo-caching game that sends players into the real world, sometimes to remote locations, to collect a variety of creatures placed at various locations.

The robbers are suspected of knowingly picking secluded spots to ambush the victims.

“The way we believe (the app) was used is you can add a beacon to a Pokestop to lure more players,” the O’Fallon Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.
