Obamacare signups top 11 million

Posted online
Maybe it was the threat of financial penalty for not having health insurance, or maybe it was President Barack Obama's silly video encouraging folks to enroll for coverage through the ACA, but either one seems to have worked: As of Sunday, more than 11 million people had signed up for Obamacare, reports CNNMoney.

That's more than the 9 million goal for 2015 and that number could increase as people take advantage of deadline extensions triggered by technical issues or long wait times, the report states. The adjusted deadline is now Feb. 22.

The numbers might also jump when Americans do their taxes and many learn only then about the penalty for not having health insurance. As many as six million people could be hit with the fine, which is about $95, the report states.
