Obama signs minimum wage order

He made his wishes clear during his State of the Union address earlier this month and Wednesday, President Barack Obama signed the executive order making it so.

Obama raised the minimum wage rates for federal contractors to $10.10 from $7.25 an hour.

The Associated Press reports, because the measure applies only to new contracts, officials have said it will affect just a few hundred thousand workers. That's a small percentage of the more than 2 million federal contractors.

The measure also prevents disabled contract workers from being paid less.
