Obama cuts back on acquisition of military gear by police

The Obama administration announced Monday that police departments will no longer be receiving certain types of surplus military-style equipment, Bloomberg Business reports.
 
Weaponized aircraft and vehicles, grenade launchers, large-caliber firearms and bayonets are among the equipment to be banned from transfer to police. New controls on how police departments can obtain other types of military-grade equipment also will be enacted, the report states.
 
The move is described as an attempt to improve trust between communities and police departments, the report states.
