President Barack Obama yesterday nominated Merrick Garland to be the country's 113th Supreme Court justice.
The chief judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Garland is said to be a moderate who has drawn praise from members of both parties.
If approved, the 63-year-old would succeed Antonin Scalia, who died earlier this year.
