Oaklawn race track online gambling generates $9.1M

Posted online
In its first season, newly launched OaklawnAnywhere.com generated $9.1 million in wagers for horse-race venue Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark.

The gaming website was up and running in December after state legislators approved a 2013 bill that allows Arkansas residents to place bets on Oaklawn races as well as races at other U.S. and international tracks from their computers, tablets or smartphones, according to Arkansas Business.

The bill was approved in reaction to other gaming websites that allowed Arkansas residents to bet on races in their state without generating revenue for the state. While online revenue is still only a portion of total revenue from live and simulcast betting – nearly $47 million combined in 2014 – it did more than offset a $5.1 million decline in wagers generated from those sources.
