New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said 22,000 municipal layoffs or furloughs may be necessary as the coronavirus pandemic continues to put a damper on tax revenue.
The pandemic has sapped as much as $9 billion in tax revenue from the city, de Blasio said.
“We are running out of options here,” he said. “That is the blunt truth.”
Cuts in infrastructure spending also may be on the table.
