The nutritional supplements and athletics apparel retailer plans to open one or two locations in Springfield by 2010 and as many as 40 in the region by 2013, according to a news release. Over the next five years, the company is aiming for 500 new locations to join 125 existing stores; other states targeted for expansion include Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Texas.
Max Muscle currently has one Missouri store, located in Maryland Heights, a St. Louis suburb. The store closest to Springfield is in Fayetteville, Ark., according to www.maxmuscle.com.
St. Louis marketing veteran Mike Hojnacki has been hired as regional director to grow the brand in Missouri, according to the release.
The company typically locates near health and athletic clubs. Single- and multi-unit franchisees are being sought, and investment costs range from $158,000 to $285,000 for a single-unit owner and $100,000 to $500,000 for area development agreements and master licenses. In addition, franchisees are required to become certified nutritionists.
Max Muscle is developing a new customer-centric store design featuring flat-screen TVs with an interactive library and online nutritional and exercise planning software, according to the release.
