A nurse treating Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital is the first person to contract Ebola within the United States. The news caused officials who had settled into a choreographed response to scramble on Sunday to solve the mystery of how she became infected, despite wearing protective gear, and to monitor additional people possibly at risk, the New York Times reported.
The second Ebola case in Dallas emerged four days after Duncan, a Liberian who entered the U.S. in September, died from the virus. Hospital officials said the nurse, who was not publicly identified, may have violated safety protocols, according to the New York Times.
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to hold a nationwide training conference call on Tuesday to help prepare thousands of health care workers on treating a patient with Ebola.
