Not-for-profit receives business in donation

Posted online
Employees of Council of Churches of the Ozarks didn’t know on a Friday that by Monday, COC would be the owner of a local resale business.

Owners of En’Core Resale Boutique June 3 contacted the council to announce their donation of the business.

“It was really thinking outside of the box on their part, and it’s turned out well for everybody else,” said Julie Guillebeau, chief operating officer for the council. “It’s one of those exciting things in this business – you never know what’s going to be around the corner.”

Guillebeau said the two former co-owners became too busy with raising their families and couldn’t commit the time to running or selling the business. Their history in foster parenting prompted them to choose the council, which has a foster care program, she said.

The store will continue to operate as a for-profit business, though the council is a not-for-profit organization. The council will pay sales tax and taxes on income.

“The consignment policies are the same, and we’re going to retain it as an upscale, name-brand, new and lightly used clothing store,” Guillebeau said.

Two employees were hired, but volunteers are needed to fill out the staff, Guillebeau said. Volunteers will receive store credit for the hours they donate.

The former owners stayed on to train the new workers for two weeks and are available in case any questions come up, Guillebeau said.

En’Core, 1636 S. Glenstone, is open 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. New store hours begin next week: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Interested volunteers can contact the council at (417) 862-3586.
