NorthStar Battery Co. today is partnering with the Missouri Job Center to fill around 40 open positions at the company’s two Springfield plants.
Company Human Resource Coordinator Cassie Hewitt said the full-time jobs - starting at $10 an hour - would largely encompass production associates needed to help plug a gap in inventory.
“We ship to over 132 countries worldwide. Obviously, we have inventories in several places throughout the world, and we have depleted those inventories,” she said. “We’re trying to build those all back up again.”
The positions would add to some 400 workers NorthStar Battery currently employs in Springfield at 4000 E. Continental Way in Partnership Industrial Center and at 1320 N. Alliance Ave. in Partnership Industrial Center West. The company makes a variety of batteries, including those for engines, the telecom industry and backup systems.
“Our goal is to hire good people and to have those good people stay. Hopefully, we won’t have to continue to hire,” Hewitt said, noting NorthStar’s target is to fill the 40 positions within the next month.
At the company’s northeast Springfield plant, the Missouri Job Center's Mobile Career Center is parked 9 a.m.-3 p.m. today to give job seekers resume and online application assistance.
Job center spokeswoman Megan Short said a ribbon-cutting was held this morning for the RV that’s being used for hiring events and community outreach.
