Defense contractor Northrop Grumman announced today it agreed to buy missile and rocket maker Orbital ATK for $7.8 billion.
Orbital's client portfolio includes billion-dollar contracts with NASA and the Army.
Orbital CEO David Thompson said in a statement the deal will allow his company "to maintain strong operational performance on existing programs while we pursue new opportunities that require the enhanced technical and financial resources of a larger organization."
The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2018.
