Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam plans to enact at least a temporary ban on firearms on the grounds of the state Capitol, two people briefed on his plans told The Washington Post.
Days earlier, Democrats banned guns from the Capitol building and an adjacent legislative office. Democrats took over the Virginia Senate and House in November.
A gun rights rally also is planned for next Monday. It has drawn interest from militias and extremist groups across the country.
