A well-known hotel and event venue in north Springfield is now operating under a different name.
The former Ramada Oasis Hotel and Convention Center is now the Ramada Plaza Hotel & Oasis Convention Center.
The hotel and convention center - owned by trucking company Prime Inc. President Robert Low - enacted the name change after being promoted within the Wyndham Worldwide franchise, according to a May 17 news release.
"This is a huge compliment to our hotel and ownership,” Ramada Plaza Hotel & Oasis Convention Center General Manager Missy Handyside said in the release. “Becoming a Ramada Plaza Hotel will immediately tell our guests that we offer more amenities than what they may expect at a Ramada Inn or any other midscale hotel."
Handyside attributed the promotion to awards - the hotel took Ramada Worldwide's Best of the Best Award in 2011 and 2012 and Wyndham's Sales Team of the Year in 2013 - the property's uniqueness and its customer service.
She also pointed to a roughly
$5.6 million expansion and remodel of the convention center last year, which attached it to the hotel and restaurant Fire & Ice.[[In-content Ad]]
