North Korea announced it would not participate in the Tokyo Olympics.
Officials with North Korea’s Sports Ministry said online that its Olympic committee decided against appearing at the games to protect athletes from the “world public health crisis caused by COVID-19.”
The Tokyo Olympics originally had been scheduled for 2020 but was pushed back due to the pandemic. The event now is slated to start in July this year.
