North Face founder dies kayaking in Chile

Douglas Tompkins, co-founder of The North Face and Esprit clothing companies, died yesterday while kayaking in Chile.

The 72-year-old was boating with five others when their kayaks capsized in a lake in the Patagonia region of southern Chile.

The U.S. businessman and environmental activist previously bought up large portions of South America's Patagonia region with the aim to keep them pristine.
