North American box office hits record in 2016

The North American box office closed out 2016 with a record $11.4 billion in ticket sales, according to ComScore.

Last year's total beat the previous record of $11.1 billion set in 2015.

Officials cite higher ticket prices for the increase. Studio executives and analysts believe that attendance will be essentially flat.
