Norr running for new 132nd District House seat

Posted online
Former State Rep. Charlie Norr announced Tuesday he will run for the newly drawn 132nd District seat in the Missouri House of Representatives.

The 132nd District, located in center-city Springfield, represents a large portion of the 137th District and small portions of the 138th and 140th districts.

Norr, a Democrat, represented the 137th District in northwest Springfield 2007-10.

“I see this year, more so than ever, we need elected officials who will represent working families, and not the big corporations who contribute to their campaigns," Norr said in a news release, noting his commitment to the working class and small businesses in the area.

A Springfield resident and retired paramedic and firefighter, Norr received the Springfield Urban Neighborhood Alliance's Outstanding Volunteer Award and the Nova Award for service from Springfield-based Caring Communities. In 2011, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board renamed the Woodland Heights Neighborhood Community Building the Charlie Norr Neighborhood Center due to his efforts to rehabilitate the building, according to the release.

Springfield businessman John Sellars, who announced in October his candidacy for the 138th District seat in the House, said last week he instead will be seeking the seat for the newly drawn 134th District, which will not have an incumbent representative during the 2012 election cycle.

On Dec. 9, the Appellate Apportionment Commission of the Office of Administration filed a revised redistricting plan and map with the Missouri Secretary of State, based on the 2010 Census.
