Nonprofits partner with government agencies to distribute food

Posted online

A handful of nonprofits and government agencies are partnering up to distribute food in the Ozarks.

Mobilizing Crosslines
Amid a temporary closure of its Crosslines food pantry, Council of Churches of the Ozarks is working with the Missouri National Guard to serve the hungry.

The Missouri National Guard's 1241st Transportation Company is slated to mobilize today and on Nov. 3 to deliver food, according to a news release.

CCO spokesperson Christina Cook said the exact amount of food the Guard will distribute is unknown, but typically a mobile distribution comprises more than 60 pounds of food per individual.

Crosslines has been closed temporarily due to a positive case of COVID-19 among its team members, according to the release. The food pantry is slated to reopen Nov. 2.

The distribution agreement also involves a partnership with Ozarks Food Harvest.

“Thanks to our friends at Ozarks Food Harvest, and with tremendous support from the Missouri National Guard, we will still be able to help those needing services," said Tom Faulkner, director of Crosslines, in the release.

Patrol program
The Springfield Police Department is piloting a new initiative called the Patrol Pack Program in partnership with Convoy of Hope.

Convoy of Hope today is slated to deliver two pallets of canned goods to the department for police officers to provide assistance when out in the community, according to a news release.

Containing canned fruit and proteins, vegetables and other products, the pallets are being separated into 176 tote bags full of food, said police spokesperson Jasmine Bailey. She said Convoy of Hope plans to add the program as an annual budget item.

“We are very excited to get this new initiative started and we’re thankful for our partnership with Convoy of Hope and their investment in this program,” said Lt. David Meyer, who is leading the initiative at the SPD, in the release. “Our officers at SPD are committed to serving the community and providing assistance in any way we can. Patrol Packs will give us another avenue to accomplish that goal.”

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office also is participating in the Patrol Pack Program, officials said.
