Nominations for the 2004 Landscape Awards will be accepted by the Springfield Planning & Zoning Commission until July 30. According to a news release from the city of Springfield, the awards honor developments that demonstrate the value of quality landscaping.
There are seven categories for the awards:
Improvement or rehabilitation of an existing site. This category addresses conversion or redevelopment of an existing site such as the Dodson-Williams Collision Center or Ozark Mountain Interiors, both previous Landscape Award winners.
Retail establishment or general. This category includes overall development of a retail site. Examples of sites that have been awarded in the past include Primrose Market Place, and U-Pump Service Station.
Manufacturing or office establishment. This category includes overall development of a manufacturing or office establishment. Nominations in the past have included Bradford Office Condominiums and Prime Inc.
Residential subdivision/neighborhood or mixed-use developments: This category looks at landscaping interspersed throughout a subdivision and either under common ownership or owned by the general developer. Also included are planned developments. An example is last year's winner, Old Monterey apartment complex.
Residence. This category covers landscaping of single-family residences that can be seen from the street. An example of a past winner is 2012 W. Calhoun St., owned by Kevin and Evelyn Bury.
Public properties. This category includes publicly owned properties and grounds. An example of a past winner is the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 3555 S. Fremont Ave.
Other. This category covers those sites and concepts not covered by the other categories. Landscaping in rights of way and parking lots may be a part of this category. Examples for this category include Xeriscape Garden at National and Linwood and the American National Fish & Wildlife Museum at 500 W. Sunshine.
