Nobel Peace Prize winner John Hume died at a U.K. nursing home after being diagnosed with dementia several years ago. He was 83.
Hume played a crucial role in helping to broker the Irish Republican Army ceasefire of 1994.
He was one of the founding members of the Social Democratic and Labour Party in Northern Ireland. He went on to lead the party 1979-2001.
