John B. Fenn, a professor at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, will discuss nanotechnology research that will occur at St. John’s Hospital and MSU’s Jordan Valley Innovation Center. In September, St. John’s partnered with the university’s Center for Applied Science and Engineering as a senior corporate affiliate to further biomedical research in Missouri.
In 2002, Fenn was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work on the development of methods for identification and structural analyses of biological macromolecules, such as proteins.
Joining Fenn will be Dr. Shachar Tauber, director of St. John’s ophthalmology research and refractive surgery; Dr. Joe Bango and Dr. Randal Fuerst, co-founders of Ocugenics; Ryan Giedd, CASE director and JVIC executive director; and Dr. Paul Durham, director of the Center for Biomedical and Life Sciences at JVIC.
The panel discussion will be 3-4 p.m. in Plaster Student Union, Room 313.
“We hope this symposium will provide an educational opportunity for all concerned with the future of applied research in nanotechnologies and the development of new and better medicine, devices and surgical procedures,” Dr. Shachar Tauber, director of St. John’s ophthalmology research and refractive surgery, said in a news release.
