Nixon visits Joplin for EaglePicher groundbreaking

Gov. Jay Nixon visited Joplin Thursday to help EaglePicher Technologies break ground on a new 100,000-square-foot plant.

To be constructed behind an existing plant, the facility will be dubbed the Lithium Ion Center of Excellence, according to the Joplin Globe.

The plant would employ 170 and manufacture lithium ion batteries for use in defense, space, medical and other commercial applications. The plant is expected to open next year.
