Nixon tries to reverse opposition to I-70 tolls

Toll roads have never been a popular topic in Missouri. In 1970, 70 percent of voters rejected them, and some lawmakers unsuccesfully tried to impose them on Interstate 70 in 2012.

Gov. Jay Nixon is now lending political muscle to tolling, a move that could stir up more debate but may not prove any more fruitful.

According to the Kansas City Star, Nixon received a report from the Missouri Department of Transportation exploring the option. It could be a boost for the struggling MoDOT, but critics say it's an uphill battle.
