Gov. Jay Nixon said on Oct. 21 he plans to propose significant increases to higher educational funding when he presents the fiscal 2015 budget in January, according to KMBC-TV in Kansas City.
The governor, who spoke in front of higher education leaders in Jefferson City, did not specify how much funding he would seek for colleges and universities across the state, but said he would propose new resources for financial aid and scholarship programs.
Nixon also is proposing an initiative to train mental health professionals to help fill a need across the state, according to KMBC.
In the current fiscal year, colleges and universities received a $25 million bump in funding after several years of budget cuts.
