Nixon proposes truce in Border War

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon laid out a four-point proposal for ending the economic development "Border War" between the Missouri and Kansas sides of the Kansas City area during an event hosted Tuesday by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.

Nixon is calling for:

  • an immediate moratorium on the use of discretionary incentives to grab jobs from across state lines;
  • both state governors to work with legislators to pass the moratorium;
  • Kansas City-area officials to stop using local tax dollars in inefficient and counterproductive ways; and
  • Missouri and Kansas to work together to leverage their combined resources.
