Nixon offers border war truce; Kansas has no plans to follow

Gov. Jay Nixon is tired of fighting with Kansas over Kansas City-area business. He offered a legislative truce Tuesday, but Kansas legislators may not be willing to play nice.

The Associated Press reports Nixon signed legislation Tuesday in Kansas City that would prohibit Missouri from offering incentives to businesses that relocate from one of four Kansas counties to any of four Missouri counties in the Kansas City area.

The measure would only become active if the Sunflower State takes similar steps.

Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George said the state has no plans to follow Missouri’s offer, but he says he’s willing to talk, the AP reports.
