Nixon gets first look at Missouri-built GM trucks

Posted online
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon was in Detroit Sunday for the unveiling of General Motors’ 2015 GMC Canyon truck that will be built at the automaker’s Wentzville plant northwest of St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Business Journal, the unveiling was ahead of the North American International Auto Show that started yesterday in the Motor City. GM employees in Wentzville also will build the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado that was displayed in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the journal reported.

GM has grown production at the Wentzville plant since 2011, when the company announced plans for a $380 million expansion for assembly of redesigned midsize pickup trucks and 1,600 additional jobs. Last year, GM said it was investing $133 million to add a third stamping press. The journal said the manufacturer currently employs 1,800 hourly and 300 salaried workers.
