Nixon declares state of emergency amid flooding

Gov. Jay Nixon on Thursday declared a state of emergency in Missouri as remnants of Tropical Depression Bill are expected to bring heavy rain and flooding across much of the state through the weekend.

Expected to hit major flood stage are the Mississippi River, as well as Meramec River, the Bourbeuse River, the Cuivre River and Dardenne Creek. Thousands of acres of agricultural land could be impacted, especially along the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

At least one drowning has been reported due to floods, according to the governor's office.
