Gov. Jay Nixon today announced two appointments to the Missouri State University Board of Governors, including a partner in a Springfield law firm.

Joe Carmichael of Carmichael & Neal PC has been selected for a term ending Jan. 1, 2017, according to a news release.

Carmichael, who received his undergraduate degree from MSU and his law degree from the University of Arkansas, has practiced law in Springfield for roughly 40 years and also serves on the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.

Marie and Joe Carmichael contributed $10,000 toward Nixon's re-election campaign last year, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

Nixon also appointed Jefferson City business owner Carrie Carroll to the board of governors for a term ending Jan. 1, 2015.

Carroll, an MSU business management graduate, owns Carrie's Hallmark Shop and is an artist and photographer. She's also an elected member of the city council of Jefferson City, the release said.

The appointments are subject to approval by the Missouri Senate.
