Nixa Police Chief James Bacon is retiring from law enforcement next month after a 29-year career.
Bacon, whose last day in Nixa is Nov. 15, is moving to Texas, where he will enter the private workforce, according to a news release.
“City Council and I greatly appreciate Chief Bacon’s service to the Nixa Police Department and the entire city. Without him, we couldn’t have achieved the level of professionalism that we are at today,” said Nixa Mayor Sam Clifton, owner of Millstone Custom Homes LLC, in the release.
Bacon's salary is $77,000, according to Nixa Communications Director Jill Finney, who said Bacon would make recommendations for his successor to City Council at its executive session Monday night.
Bacon began working as Nixa police chief in October 2006, marking the final phase of his law enforcement career. He started in 1984 as a reserve deputy for the Jefferson County Rescue in Pine Bluff, Ark., and moved a year later to working as a full-time police office for the Pine Bluff Police Department, where he served with each division and rank, including division captain. In 2001, Bacon took the chief of police job for the city of White Hall, Ark., and moved to Russellville, Ark., two and a half years later to lead its police force.
“During my tenure at Nixa, we have seen great accomplishments and advancements within the department, and I am confident that the Police Department will continue to excel and offer exceptional service to the citizens of this community," Bacon said in the release.[[In-content Ad]]
