Nixa jobs, schools attract dream-home builders

Nixa's fast-growing economy has caught the attention of Missouri Dream Homes, which has selected the city as the site for its first grand-scale house.

The 5,600-square-foot home, tentatively valued at $898,000, is under construction and scheduled to be completed by Feb. 17.

Situated on three acres on the south side of North Street, the home features five bedrooms, a guest suite, 4 1/2 baths, two kitchens, a media room with stadium seating, a formal dining room, a wine cellar and two south-facing decks.

Darrell Henley, Missouri Dream Homes co-owner, said Nixa's school system, economy, family-friendly atmosphere and close proximity to Springfield played a role in the decision to build the home there. The company's goal is build the most spectacular home - not the most expensive home - in Nixa, he said.

“We're looking at places all over southwest Missouri, trying to find the best economies where we can build extremely high-end houses,” he said. “Surprisingly, a larger number of people locally are starting to buy homes like this, and traditionally it's been a matter of people moving in from out of state.”

Nixa-based Missouri Dream Homes is a partnership between two other southwest Missouri businessmen, Henley said.

Local companies that have helped construct the home include HMI Fireplace Shop in Nixa, which supplied four heatilator fireplaces; Manor Creek LLC in Springfield, which provided exterior window shutters and architecture; Jag Industries in Ozark, which provided weather-shield windows; and Foster's Appliances in Springfield, which provided Jennair appliances.
