Jay Farr, a member of Nixa City Council since April, will resign at year’s end.
Farr and his family purchased property outside of city limits, necessitating the resignation, according to a news release.
“I have enjoyed my experience on council, albeit shorter than expected,” said Farr, the owner of Nixa business Farr Family Chiropractic LLC, in the release. “I am taking away a better understanding of how the city functions and a deep appreciation for all of the people who are committed to its prosperity.”
In Farr’s absence, Nixa council will elect a temporary council member to fill the vacancy until a special election is held next April. The winner would serve the remaining two years of his term.
Interested parties may submit a letter of interest to Nixa City Clerk Cindy Robbins by Jan. 12, and a candidate would be sworn in Jan. 19, according to the release.
In April, four council seats will be up for grabs.
In addition to Farr, the current council is made up of Mayor Brian Steele, Andy Ellis, Chris Russell, Aron Peterson, Andrea Long and Darlene Graham.
