Nintendo asked to name 'Zelda' character after Robin Williams

Posted online
The late comedic great Robin Williams loved Nintendo Co. Ltd.'s "Zelda" video game so much, he named his daughter after it.

Now, Williams' fans are asking the Japan-based company to name a character after the actor in the game's next edition.

The Wall Street Journal reports more than 100,000 people already have signed a petition.

The company said it appreciates the support, but declined to discuss any future naming potential. Typically free from real-world references and politics, if a "Zelda" character is named after the actor, it would be a first for Nintendo.

Online role-playing game "World of Warcraft" already announced it would honor Williams with an in-game character.
