Nietzel to be honored at JQH Arena June 18

Posted online
The community is invited to a farewell reception for outgoing Missouri State University President Michael Nietzel June 18 at JQH Arena's Prime Overtime Club.

Nietzel, who joined the university in 2005 from the provost position at University of Kentucky, is leaving the school and continuing a position with Gov. Jay Nixon's administration as an adviser on higher education and work force readiness issues that he started in April.

In November, Nietzel announced his decision to step down by Dec. 31, 2010 or once a successor assumed his job. His successor, University of Louisiana at Monroe President James Cofer, will take over leadership at MSU Aug. 2.

“Missouri State has made significant progress over the past five years under Dr. Nietzel’s leadership,” Missouri State Board of Governors Chairman Brian Hammons said in a news release. “The Board wanted to sponsor this reception for the campus and community to have a chance to say thank you to Dr. Nietzel.”

The reception on the 18th will begin at 3:30 p.m., with a short program acknowledging Nietzel’s accomplishments starting at 5:30 p.m. Free parking will be available in Lot 26-A, immediately south of the arena, and in Lot 25, south of Hammons Student Center.[[In-content Ad]]
