The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a formal preliminary investigation into Tesla's front-seat video game feature.
The feature allows video games to be played on the central touchscreen display in view of the driver while the vehicle is moving. The feature is designed for passengers.
"The Vehicle Safety Act prohibits manufacturers from selling vehicles with design defects posing unreasonable risks to safety," NHTSA officials said.
