NFL’s money machine never blinks

Despite a year of struggles – Deflategate and the punch seen around the world from Ray Rice — the NFL is poised to have its best sponsorship year yet.

League officials say sponsorship revenues should rise 15 percent to more than $1.3 billion.

The Wall Street Journal reports the NFL’s 32 teams received a bonus at the end of its recently completed fiscal year – some $226 million apiece from league headquarters, or nearly $40 million more than each team got the previous year.

New sponsorship deals include Dannon Co., Adidas, YouTube, Twitter and Yahoo. WSJ reports long-term media deals with CBS, NBC, ESPN and Fox, worth roughly $30 billion through 2022, include annual increases that will further boost revenue.
