Next Level Solutions conducts layoffs

Posted online

Springfield-based Next Level Solutions has laid off a portion of its labor pool.

The layoffs were announced Nov. 3, the company confirmed.

“Yesterday, Next Level Solutions announced a limited reduction in workforce as part of our ongoing efforts to align our structure with company priorities and position the organization for long-term success,” said Chief Operating Officer Michael Smith, a managing partner of NLS, in a prepared statement provided to Springfield Business Journal.

NLS provides information technology services for property and casualty insurance companies. The company reported to SBJ in July that it employed 165 locally out of 325 companywide and had 2024 revenue of $60 million.

While Smith did not provide numbers of employees laid off, he did say that of the company’s impacted resource pool, roughly 5% were local to Springfield. The company also maintains offices in Puerto Rico and Honduras.

A question to an NLS spokesperson on exactly how many people were laid off was not answered this morning.

Smith indicated the choice to reduce staff was not made lightly.

“These decisions were made after extensive consideration and reflect our continued focus on delivering high-value, technology-driven solutions for the P&C insurance industry,” he said in the statement.

Smith indicated employees who were laid off will receive severance pay and “benefits support.”

Smith declined to answer whether NLS has any goals for future hires or workforce adjustments and the financial savings that would result from the layoffs. He also declined to say how the company would manage vacant roles or restructuring.

The company was founded in 2018 when it began providing implementation of Duck Creek Technologies’ services for property and casualty insurance companies.

In an SBJ story in July about the company’s inclusion in the publication’s Economic Impact Awards, employees were a focus for NLS, as expressed by Hailey Kolstad, public relations manager.

“It’s all in our mission statement that was created when we had 10 employees,” she said. “We said we wanted to do good work for our clients, for employees and for our community, and we’ve really homed in on that in the last handful of years.”
